Responsibilities
- Obtain focused and comprehensive histories and perform appropriate physical examinations.
- Develop appropriate differential diagnoses and management plans in collaboration with Emergency Medicine physicians.
- Order and interpret appropriate laboratory studies, radiographic imaging, and other diagnostic testing.
- Perform procedures appropriate to individual training, experience, and competency, including wound repair and suturing, splinting, incision and drainage, foreign-body removal, and other bedside procedures.
- Frequently reassess patients throughout their ED course, particularly after treatment interventions (medications, procedures, fluids) to evaluate response. Recognize and respond to changes in vital signs, symptoms, examination findings, or overall clinical condition.
- Communicate diagnoses and treatment plans to patients and their families.
